The Battle Cats is a surprisingly hard mobile game that requires a whole lot more strategy than you might expect. Here are 10 tips to ensure you easily make it past the first few stages.

#1: Use Normal Cat and Cat Base upgrades, don't exchange them

Even if you max out their levels or don't use them often, it's worth it to continue upgrading them (especially Wall Cat). They will incrementally grow stronger. Also, you get almost no XP from exchanging them, so it's really not worth it to do so. Once you max out the Cat Base upgrades and + levels, you'll eventually be able to exchange them for rare tickets, and if you upgrade your normal cats enough, they just might evolve into their final form...

#2: Don't exchange any new cats (yet)

This applies to both cats from the Normal and Rare Cat Capsules. The potential power added to your team is more than worth the opportunity cost of XP. When I first used Swordsman Cat, he demolished every Red enemy in his path (and looked sick while doing it). This especially applies to Super Rare and Uber Super Rare cats, as they tend to deal more damage (which is why they're rarer).

#3: Don't ignore type matchups

This may seem obvious, but it can be easy to be lazy. Often, it's the difference between a victory and a loss. I've learned that too many times on stages with Black (now Dark) enemies. You can view types Cats are effective against in the equip screen, upgrade menu, and Cat Guide, and the enemy type in the Enemy Guide. There are a lot of different effects your cats can have on enemies (and your enemies can have on your cats), and you can discover what each symbol means by hovering over it. I highly recommend making yourself familiar with the system.

#4: Don't use Continues (unless the stage is important)

Continues cost 30 Catfood, and they are almost never worth it. I used to use Continues back when they let you watch an unlimited number of ads, but now that they've limited it to 5 per day it's just a waste. You'll get much better value saving up Catfood for Rare Capsule spins. Exceptions include, of course, the last stage in a Chapter and stages where an important cat unit is unlocked.

The "final stage of a chapter" is usually the Moon, by the way!

#5: Don't use Cat God's Miracles (and use items sparingly)

Cat God's miracles are... useless, to say the least. The healing one is okay, I guess, but the rest (damage, knockback, and cat spam) are overpriced or near useless. He gives you one free one, so I'd avoid buying him until you're stuck on a stage you just can't get past. I've seen a lot of people use it on the final stages of certain Chapters. Items are different. Never buy them from the shop (that's a waste of Catfood), but you can use them if you feel you need them.

Once you've cleared a stage, you can use two Cat CPUS to instantly clear it again for free (minus the energy cost). Double tap on the Cat CPU icon to use this option.

#6: Save your Catfood

Just, y'know, in case you didn't get this from the last two points. The best use for Catfood is 11 Pulls at the Rare Cat Capsule, especially during an event where Uber rare rates are doubled. Never buy XP, Catamins, or really any other items with them unless you can really justify the cost.

#7: Prioritize rarer cat upgrades (as long as you use them)

It's not always true that the rarer cats deal more damage, but it often is. Prioritize Uber Super Rare upgrades, but since they cost so much, it's crucial you only upgrade the cats you use fairly often. I got a certain extremely rare unit at the beginning of my playthrough, invested heavily into it, and it paid off in me coasting through the first 2-3 Chapters. After that, upgrade your meatshields (like Tank Cat), then your attackers.

#8: Check the Wiki

There's a lot of good info out there, and you can find more than this hurriedly-written guide at battlecats.fandom.com and battlecats.mirahaze.org. Mirahaze is more recent, but the Fandom may contain more overall data.

This guide could be better. I may update it later.

#9: Clear Zombie Outbreaks (and collect Treasures)

Zombie Outbreaks are really hard to clear, sure. But once you get a good few cats for them, they're worth it, as they not only give 10 Catfood per clear, but once you clear enough of them in specific areas, the Treasure drop rate in that area increases. Collect Treasures, too - collecting all the Treasures in a set will give your cats bonus, magnified by the value (inferior -> normal -> superior) of the Treasure.

#10: Ubers are great, but they're not the best

Uber Super Rares are hyped up a lot by the banners, which is fair, since they're the highest rarity you'll get without playing for a WHILE. (Log in consistently, by the way, the rewards are worth it.) But there is a secret rarity, with one unit of that rarity typically appearing on each Event Banner in the Rare Cat Capsule. Listed as ??? Rare until one is aquired, they have only a 0.2% chance of appearing on any given spin. If you find one, however... it will likely become one of your most powerful assets. That's it for my Battle Cats tips! These, of course, work the best at the beginning of your playthrough, but can be used at any time.
