I’m certain you already know this by now, but in Genshin, you have to put together four (4) characters that work in harmony to deafeat those enemies. Its not really about building a team of characters you like - that will only take you so far. So trust me, taking down enemies will only get harder. Sk it's majorly up to you to put in effort focused on making a team that works.

Although "common sense" can guide you, but skipping the initial tutorials reduces your chances of succeeding without help. You skipped the tutorial, didn't you...

Character Roles

So to get started, we have to talk about character roles. You probably already play other games that use these types of roles so it won't be much of a hassle understanding them in this case.

There are essentially three (3) character roles in the game - The Main Dps - The Sub Dps - The Support - The main Dps should probably be the first character you pick up. They specialize in dealing damage as Dps implies. So it definitely is safe to say that these Main Dps' are your 'Hard Hitters'. The main Dps is the Main Dps because you spend most of your time fighting and dealing the bulk of the damage with them. - The Sub Dps deals damage nonetheless, but not often as much as the Main Dps. You can basically call them the backup Dps. - The Support majorly assists the team in nearly every capacity possible. Although, you won't spend much time playing as them either. There are however, three subcategories of Supports; a. The Healer (they heal) b. The Shielders (they block incoming damage) c. The Buffers (they increase team stats generally and sometimes to a specific team member)

Dps means Damage Per Second

So from here, you should have an idea of which character roles you would want in your team (all of them, I’m guessing).

But remember, balance is everything. Imagine having 4 supports, 2 being healers, 1 being a buffer and the other a shielder. Your team may never die considering the support frenzy, but neither will the enemy. No one's dealing any damage...

Character Role Combinations

The next step is deciding which character role combination is the best for you. From my play time to extensive research, I was able to narrow down two possible combinations that may work in your advantage. The first being the OG or rather Standard combination. Comprising of one Main Dps, One Sub Dps and one Support. Then the final character is usually either a Support or a Sub Dps. The second combination is usually focused on channeling Support to one Big Bad Main Dps to boost overall damage output. So. One Main Dps and three (3) Supports.

Now you know how to set up a team. But do you know which character falls under which role? Well, that’s why I’m here.

To understand this, you lowkey have to...(drumroll)... R.E.A.D. Yep, that boring stuff. But it’s actually one of the best ways to understand a character's role better. Reading through their talents may seem tasking, but it’s generally interesting. You can even learn much more than you thought you would and eventually master the play style of your favorite characters. There is a second option though. A website that practically spells out everything you need to know about each and every playable character.

I have no idea if it’s allowed to promote other websites on here so I won't be sharing the link. Although you can just look up related search words and burrow through until you find one that helps. Remember, you can always do the boring stuff and just read.

Placing the Characters in a Team

For example; picking a character like Razer (A 4 star Electro Dps) as your Main Dps, you have to select other characters that use elements which react well with Electro. So if you haven't seen the elemental guide, this is your sign to go check it out.

As already discussed, Electro works/ reacts well with Hydro, Cryo, pyro, Anemo, and Dendro. After looking at the characters in your inventory, you can now pick which reactions you can employ and which deals the better damage. Then all you need to do is work your way up from that. And if you’re just like me, you’d pick Pyro because The 'Overload' reaction deals quite a ton. And we're aiming at dealing damage with the Main Dps, aren’t we?

This second character mustn't fill the next obvious open spot. If the Pyro character is a shielding support character, you still need a Healer. And if you're working wit the OG/ Standard combination, that might as well be second support in your team, leaving room for one more support and a Sub Dps.

These are only examples I came up with. So you don’t need to feel the pressure of using the specific elements I mentioned. Plus I’ve seen average "Support" characters dealing over 10,000 damage with single hits. These are only suggestions ;).

There’s also another website to help with this, and It’s definitely NOT keiqingmains dot com ;).

Although it may not seem as important as the others, choosing characters that have talents that aid your exploration is honestly great. These are talents that help you explore Teyvat easier than an average character would. For example, speed and talents that help locate resources help to both get to and forage resource items. (I'm more into the food part tbh)

Summary

So to put the baby in the carriage, you practically have only a few things to do. One, finding a character you like. Not just aesthetically, but elementalky and role wise. Two, choosing the reactions you like to have in effect during gameplay. And three, filling out your team sheet with characters that support the cause and cover loops. And that’s pretty much it.

As we’ve always said, it will definitely get difficult. But having a great, solid and efficient team is the foundation of a mansion called Genshin. So if you read through and understood anything, that should make it one less hurdle to overcome.

With hope, you always remember that it’s just a game. And at anytime, you can stop, ask yourself - "who am I kidding?", pick your favorite good looking characters and button mash all the way.

Genshin wasn't made to be a "finishing the game in 12hours" roulette. It’s about everything in-between. From challenges, to exploring the beauty of Teyvat and even down to enjoying what’s in front of you. And that’s all up to you.

I must say, you're looking awfully smart for a new traveller. I fear i taught you a little too much. But hey, it’s a good thing isn't it?
