What Are You Getting Into?

Genshin is a free-to-play action rpg that takes you to the world of Teyvat. This guide explores everything a first timer, like you (no shade) should expect – from your first steps, to understanding the way things work like; elements, characters, and combat mechanics. look here, you don't have to worry about mistakes you make off the jump. You'll definitely get better the more you play.

Yes, I know, it seems like a handful already. Luckily, you won't have to go through the experience alone, as the ever reliable Paimon is here to assist you on your journey.

What To Expect: A First Look

So now, let’s dive right into it. What sets makes Genshin different from other rpg's is that it has such a great storyline, detailed character orientation and the role-play style you get to experience. Starting off strong, you get to pick one character (either twin) and you play as them most of the time. for a background, the twins got separated mid adventure and they have to survive to gat back together.

For it’s play-style, you get to experience an open world environment that allows you to interact with almost anything. Leaving you with a wide landscape to explore and even challenge local enemies when in contact.

Don't worry about the "local enemies", basic attacks are mostly effective. For much stronger enemies, you may have to charge up attacks to deal good damage and even take then down.

Understanding The Gameplay: Character Attributes and Basic Controls

Now you're probably wondering; "how do I start?" Or "where do I get that character". Well, that’s exactly what this guide is for. For characters, you get to use one of the twins to begin your journey. Which leads you to gaining more allies through gameplay and increasing your squad. There are essentially 7 ability groups a character may be a part of; water, air, fire, earth, lighting, ice and nature. These abilities often interact with each other in different ways. For example, if water interacts with ice, it produces a "super conduct" effect. So you should definitely look out for the enemy ability group so you’ll better understand them and counter attacks or even deal better damage.

You know what's interesting? No two characters have the same ability set! Its really cool because even though they're in the same ability group, you can still have variety while playing. Take a peek at the fire ability group (otherwise Pyro users). Their fighting style and weaponry differ, and they all have battles they're stronger or weaker in. Make your choice wisely ;)

Choosing the right combination of characters will definitely help out when facing stronger enemies. It’s like finding the perfect loadout in your favorite Battle Royale game.

If you’re on mobile, the controls should be pretty much straightforward. You have the basic attack, Jump, Dash, ultimate ability, sprint, charged attack, and the character switch buttons to your right. Plus they're really easy to get used to. On console, the key binds may be different from what you’re used to, but you’ll pick up quick

What to Focus on First

Daily commissions are your basic source of Primogems. So you have to do them every day (I'll admit, I don’t do mine every day. So don’t feel guilty if you miss a day's task) They’ll help you to save for wishes and general XP. If you’re confused on where you get these commisions, they're on your adventurers handbook (the book/scroll looking icon up left). Also, spend your original resin daily so you don’t waste resources.

Chests also contain primogems, XP and sigils for shops. So look out for those.

Exploring and upgrading the statues of the seven boost your stamina, which makes you climb, swim, and glide better and longer.

Building a really stable team is key to easily defeating enemies and evading mid - battle - burnout. For me, I would advise you have One main DPS(I use an earth ability character), one versatile character (you can use either an air user or a lighting user as they usually have burst abilities that would be useful in close range combat), and 2 supports (water users a the best in this category. Nature users are a great addition too). This should be a great make up of your team. Remember, Strategy defeats Strength always.

Lastly, your archon quests should come first cause they help you unlock areas in the map and increases your AR level.

Go, and Enjoy Genshin

Teyvat is huge, no player masters it all in one day. You’ll get lost or feel overwhelmed, but that just means you're playing Genshin the right way. Taking time play, understand the way things work, building a strong foundation, and even enjoying playing with your favorite characters should be a priority.

Now you’ve got the basics, load in, pick up your favorite character and enjoy the world of Teyvat. See you another time, Traveler.
